Time to finally build that beer cellar! Barleywines are ideal beers to age for years to come. Of course, you can enjoy their intensity now or let the high alcohol content mellow and complexities develop in the malty profile.
Gigantic Brewing Massive! Barleywine (22 oz- 12% ABV) - 97 on RateBeer. A US based interpretation of the traditional English barleywine. Portland based Gigantic used only British Halycon pale malts and an extremely long boil ( 8 hours, nearly 5 times longer than a typical boil) to recreate the English classic. Weighing in at 12% ABV and coming in a 22 oz bottle, we recommend you share with a friend.
De Molen Bommen & Granaten (330 ml- 15.2% ABV) - 97 on RateBeer. The literal translation is Bombs and Grenades and drinkers find explosions of flavor throughout this beer. It's full bodied with malty sweetness, viscous mouthfeel, yet with notes of fruit like oranges and tangerines. Hops take an initial back seat as is customary with barleywines only to reveal themselves at the end.
To Ol Mine is Bigger than Yours (375 ml- 6.0% ABV) - 97 on RateBeer. This beer is brewed to be bigger than yours. To Ol claims it is able to jump higher, build bigger houses and even chop wood faster than your beer. Boasting aside, this beer showcases fruit, caramel, toffee and alcohol flavors before a long finish accentuated by Columbus, Simcoe, and Citra hops.
