De Molen, whose name means "The Mill Brewery," is located in a 300 year old windmill and was started by homebrewer Menno Olivier. While Baird is a family run brewery whose motto is "Celebrating Beer." They even farm hops, vegetables and fruit on the brewery's grounds to connect drinkers to nature. Which one do you prefer?
De Molen Hel & Verdoemenis Barrel Aged Port Charlotte (330ml, 11.0% ABV ): 98 on RateBeer. (Name means Hell and Damnation) Imperial Stout aged in barrels of peaty whiskey. This imperial stout tops in at 11% ABV and brings forth warming alcohol along with coffee, cocoa, wood, vanilla and faint peaty aromas and flavors. The name means Hell and Damnation.
De Molen Hemel & Aarde (330ml, 10.0% ABV: 99 on RateBeer. (Name means Heaven and Hell) One of De Molen's most popular beers, this variant of their imperial stout is made from the most heavily peated malt in the world from the Bruichladdich distillery. This malt creates a deeply complex beer has dark chocolate, peat, molasses and even licorice-like flavors. Feel free to age this for up to 25 years.
Baird Angry Boy (330ml, 6.2% ABV): 94 on RateBeer. This brown ale was brewed to be unpredictable. From fading malty sweetness to barely restrained hop bitterness, this beer will tease you with caramel, toffee, ripe fruit flavors before allowing the hops to come through and leave their bitterness on your palate. This beer showcases the ying and yang of beer, malt and hops.
Baird Dark Sky Imperial Stout (330ml, 10.0% ABV): 96 on RateBeer. Imperial Stout. Baird takes some notes from American brewers by dry hopping this stout with American Centennial and Amarillo hops. The resulting flavor has coffee, chocolate, toffee and licorice with some warming from the 10% alcohol.
